Mars Retrograde 2027 (Jan 10 – Apr 1): What It Means and How to Work With It

Mars is retrograde in 2027 from January 10 through April 1. He stations retrograde at 10°26′ Virgo on Sunday, January 10, and turns direct at 20°56′ Leo on Thursday, April 1. Between those stations he walks back through the rest of Virgo and into Leo. The story is one review in two signs. Mars retrograde 2027 dates and shadow

A station is the moment apparent motion stalls and turns. The retrograde station is the turn backward. The direct station is the later turn forward. Nothing in the orbit reverses. From Earth, Mars seems to pause, then retrace degrees he has already crossed. What retrograde means is that retracing, treated in the traditional craft as review.

The shadow is the span of degrees between the two stations, walked before the retrograde and cleared after it. The pre-shadow begins when Mars, still direct, first reaches the degree of the future direct station. The post-shadow ends when Mars, direct again, reaches the degree of the retrograde station.

What Mars rules

Mars is the lesser malefic. He governs heat, courage, anger, severance, and the will to begin a contest. Malefic, in the traditional vocabulary, means the planet works by division and effort. It does not mean evil. In a birth chart Mars describes how a person cuts, defends, and starts. In the shared sky, a Mars retrograde is a season for those same topics: effort reviewed, a goal that needs a truer name, a heat that has been running on habit.

He rules Aries and Scorpio in the traditional scheme, and he is exalted in Capricorn. This retrograde is in neither domicile and not in the exaltation. He stations in Virgo. Virgo is mutable earth, ruled by Mercury. The weather is sorting, craft, and correction of a thing already in hand. From there he moves backward through the early degrees of Virgo.

On February 21, 2027, he crosses into Leo, still retrograde. Leo is fixed fire, ruled by the Sun. The weather is the heart, the visible flame, and the craft of being seen. The cross-back is the change of weather inside one retrograde. Mutable earth gives way to fixed fire. The review moves from a private correction toward a question of heat that other people can see. He keeps moving backward through Leo until the direct station at 20°56′ Leo on April 1.

Direct motion releases the review. The degrees he retraced can be lived in ordinary time again. The direct station is in the Sun's sign, and the retrograde station was in Mercury's. That is a passage from craft back into visibility. It is not a claim that a project launches, or that a conflict ends, on April 1.

What to do, and what to leave

Give one Mars topic the length of the retrograde, from January 10 through April 1. A contest, a repair, a goal whose name is no longer true, a heat that has been out too long. Write it down without an audience. Read it again near the direct station and keep only what is still true. The pre-shadow, from November 5, is the approach to that degree. The post-shadow, through June 8, is the walk clear of it.

Leave the slogan that nothing may begin. A retrograde is poor support for a brand-new performance of the planet's topics. It is not a ban on work, travel, or a signature. Leave also the idea that waiting itself produces a result. Review is a craft. It is not an outcome on a date.

By rising sign

The house question is a count, not a forecast for each rising sign. In whole-sign houses the rising sign is the whole of the first house. Count forward to Virgo, and count forward to Leo. In a birth chart, find the sign and house of natal Mars, then notice whether any planet sits near 10°26′ Virgo or 20°56′ Leo. Near means the same degree neighborhood as a station.
